BMA to hand out the highest number of apprenticeships in QLD

BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) has given 62 Queenslanders reason to celebrate Christmas early, offering them apprenticeships starting in January 2020.

This is the highest number of apprenticeships offered in central Queensland in years, with 15 people coming from the Greater Mackay area, 13 from Moranbah, five from Rockhampton, four from Dysart, Blackwater and Emerald and a further eight workers from greater central and northern Queensland.

BMA has focussed on diversity when awarding apprenticeships, with the cohort comprising 23 females (37 per cent of the group) and 10 Indigenous Australians (16 per cent).

The new workers will complete four-year apprenticeships across a range of trades at BMA, including electricians, mechanics, diesel fitters, auto-electricians and boilermakers.

The bulk of the applicants will receive their letters as they finish their last year of school in the coming weeks.

Declan Fraser from Moranbah was thrilled to receive the letter, offering him a position as an apprentice diesel fitter at the Goonyella Riverside mine in the Bowen Basin region.

“I am very excited about my apprenticeship and can’t wait to start in January,” Fraser said.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity and think it will be a perfect fit for me.” Read more…
